Guest post by Lillie Ammann who writes over at A Writer’s Words, An Editor’s Eye
Asking a writer to choose favorites among her articles is like asking a mother to choose favorites among her children, but that’s what Robert asked us to do. At least this post is at Middle Zone Musings and not on my own blog, so the other posts won’t get their feelings hurt.
- January: Editing: Part 1-What Is Editing? started a seven-part series on editing, which covered self-editing as well as determining when to hire an outside editor.
- February: What I Learned from People with Magical Thinking describes people who have a sense of entitlement and expect to get they want … just because they want it. The post generated a lively discussion.
- March: What I Learned from the Law was challenging to write because it described a traumatic experience in my life, but I was blessed by the comments.
- April: Building Long-Term Client Relationships: Part 1-Why started a six-part series aimed at freelancers but helpful for any businessperson or professional who wants to strengthen their relationships with clients.
- May: The Most Basic Human Right: Life is dear to my heart because I am so passionate about saving the lives of unborn babies. Other posts this month generated more comments, but advocating for the unborn is important to me.
- June: Remembering My Parents was a joy to write as I shared how blessed I am to have been born into the family I was.
- July: Job Search: Part 1-How to Write an Interview-Winning Resume is my favorite this month because it is by far the most popular post I’ve ever written. It was Stumbled several times, received more than 8,000 page views in the first week, and continues to be one of the most-visited posts on my blog.
- August: Barter: Part 1-What Is It? is the first of four posts in a series about barter, which I think is an important tool for businesses, especially in these tough economic times.
- September: New Novel Released-Dream or Destiny is a favorite because it was such a thrill to announce the publication of my novel.
- October: Blog Action Day 2008: Poverty-I Will Do Something reminded me, and I hope readers, that no matter what our social status is in the US, we are wealthy compared to many people around the world and we can each do our small part to help.
- November: What I Learned from Government relates government intervention of today to the days when I worked for the government. In both cases, programs designed to benefit people sometimes have the opposite effect.
- December: Blog Book Tour: Part 1-What It Is, the first installment in a three-part series about blog book tours, is based what I learned from my own tour as well as hosting authors on their tours. I share advice for authors and hosts as well as information about what a blog book tour is.
I write a lot of series, and I participate in almost every What I Learned From … writing project. So it’s natural that a large percentage of my favorite posts are either part of a series or a WILF entry.

Great and exhilarating posts, Lillie. By the way, how’s your injury?
Remembering My Parents was my favorite.
I like the little stories and I think it was a very thoughtful reflection on how they shaped your life.
J.D. Meiers last blog post..Timeboxes, Rhythm, and Incremental Value
Thank you so much for sharing that post about your parents. I am blessed to still have both of mine near and as they get older I find myself remembering times that will pass in to history eventually so I am inspired to write some down now.
