What I Learned From… Vacation

If you're new around these parts, I just want to say how much I appreciate your dropping by! Oh, and you may want to subscribe to my feed. Thanks, and a tip o' the hat to ya!

What I Learned From…Okey-dokey, ladies and gentlemen; the million-dollar question (er, would you settle for, let’s see, $0.28?) is: Do you know what today is? That’s right (sound of huge crowd cheering), it’s the first Monday of the month! (Cue the fireworks, cue the band)

Yep, that’s right! It’s time for another round of stories from you, the readers, for this month’s What I Learned From… group writing project. So, my fine feathered friends, sharpen up your keyboards and put on your thinking caps! Gird up your loins, and stock up on brain food! Darn the torpedoes and full speed – er, sorry, got carried away there.

This month’s topic: VACATIONS.

What does that mean? Well, you can write anything you like, as long as it has something to do with VACATIONS. (When you think about it, it’s pretty obvious, really. Actually, even if you don’t think about it, it’s still pretty obvious, don’t you think?) Hey, even if you’ve never taken a “formal” vacation, then surely you’ve taken a little “self” time, eh? Well, that qualifies as a vacation in my book. So go for it!

As is customary, the project will be open for contributions from now until next Sunday night, August 12th. (And as usual, should you or any of your team be caught or killed, or, you know, you break a fingernail or something during the execution of this project, the Secretary will deny all knowledge of your actions.)

Here’s all you have to do to participate:

  1. Write a new post on your blog with a reference to THIS POST (uh, the one you’re reading now). There are no limits to the number of words you can use, so feel free to be as eloquent (or concise) as you like. C’mon, show off if you like!
  2. Title your post “What I Learned From __________” (and, um, don’t forget to fill in the blank)
  3. [UPDATED] Send me an email (rhruzek@sbcglobal.net) containing your name, the title of your post, and the permalink of the post. (I usually notice the trackbacks, but this will make sure I don’t miss it.)

That’s all you have to do! I will post the entire list of entries next Monday, August 13th.

As always here at the Zone, there are just two simple rules:

  1. For the sake of the general blogging audience, please keep it G-Rated. (Also please note: this is a request, not a demand, since after all it’s your blog and you can do what you want. However, fair warning: I reserve the right to choose to link to you or not.)

  2. Be nice.

Ladies and gentlemen, start your pencils!

[UPDATE] For anyone trying to email me at rhruzek@sbcglobal.com, please note I’ve changed the address above to the CORRECT one: rhruzek@sbcglobal.net !!! I wondered why I was getting so few emails! My bad.]

You know, it would just be absolutely finer than a frogs hair if you would subscribe to my RSS feed!

    Hi Bob,

My latest (and most outlanding) WILF opus: What I Learned from an Unscheduled Trip to the Bottom of the Grand Canyon, is now available. You have been warned.

Mike: Apologies for taking so long to acknowledge your contribution! I couldn’t find my American Express card, and couldn’t leave home without it! :-(

Joanna: I love the photography on this one! Makes me homesick for a place I’ve never been… *sigh*

Oh, and thanks about the bat-thing!

  17. [...] Hello all. I am writing this from an Internet cafe in beautiful Zaporizhzhya. What? You’ve never heard of Zaporizhzhya? All I can say is – you are missing out on one of the best mid-sized industrial cities on the Dnieper River. But what with me being filthy rich and all, I get to travel to fascinating places like this practically all the time; some of them even more interesting than Zaporizhzhya, if that’s possible. But what have I learned from it all? [...]
