What I Learned From 2007 - Will Taft
Howdy, Bubba! Hey, if you're new around these parts, I just want to say how much I appreciate you dropping by! Oh, and you may want to subscribe to my feed. Thanks, and a tip o' the hat to ya!
Inquiring minds want to know: What were the most amazing, profound, surprising, or even whacky things you’ve learned over the last year?
Here’s a contribution from Will Taft of Will Taft.com - Healthy Living for People and Planet Earth:
I believe much of what I and the readers of my blog learn from my site is contained in the comments on my articles. So as a tribute to my loyal readers and commentators, I thought to include here the articles from my site that each month generated the most comments.
As the site has only been up for 2007, comments have increased a lot as we approach 2008. This made me realize that comments alone are not the best judge of the most popular posts. So I also factored in the number of times a page was viewed and found in search results. If the winner in a given month is really different than I might have chosen on my own, I’ll own up.
So, with a precision drum-roll….. Here are my choices for 2007. Enjoy!
A Post From Every Month of 2007:
January: What is Simple Living? A few thought on sustainability and simple living.
February: First Small School Opened A bit of a critique on the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Small School Initiative.
March: Bird Friendly Coffee A widely read, no comments, article on why you should try to purchase this certified coffee.
April: Find Local Food Sources The first article in a series on the importance of eating locally produced food.
May: Chemicals in Farmed Salmon: The winner in readership, but I would have chosen this article on Economic Sustainability.
June: Soap Changes the Sex of Fish Absolutely no adult content here, just serious concern about what we put down our drains.
July: How to Eat Less To Lose Weight Won in readers by a hair over the one I would have chosen, The Dirty Dozen of Food.
August: Eight Fact About Myself Probably won because of a link from my “about” page, but it does let you in on a few secrets!
September: Turn Out The Lights - Or Not? I was very surprised by the popularity of this article.
October: Eat At Least Three Hours Before Going To Sleep This one had 12 comments, but hundreds of readers.
November: Can Eating Well Prevent Alzheimer’s? November’s winner.
December: Will Earth Survive? One Humble Opinion The most popular article of the year with a bunch of comments and over 2,000 views in the first 5 days.
Wishing happiness to all in 2008!

What a wonderful collection of posts! I especially like How to Eat Less to Lose Weight, both the title and content.
Nice collection of posts. I enjoyed reading “Will Earth Survive? One Humble Opinion”. It is great that there are many people who respect the Earth.

Hi again Will! I enjoyed this round up too - learning from what’s popular with our readers and visitors can be a stretch and challenge to our thinking, can’t it?
I often write something that I think will get lots of attention… which is followed by… silence - while something else that I didn’t agonise over is what people respond to (maybe there’s a blogging lesson there:-))

Joanna: I know exactly what you mean! I must say too - it’s really irritating! In a good way. Sortof.
I mean, it helps me see new things, after all! :-\
Thanks Brad! Sort of serendipitous how it ended up in the same month as “The Dirty Dozen of Food”!

Yes Joanna, I echo Robert’s comment. It is nice to have those readers and commentators to keep us focused though!
Will, I enjoyed your ‘8 Facts About Myself’ post. What a wonderful variety of interests you have!
I found myself drawn to the ‘Turn Out the Lights — or Not?’ post as well. I’ve wondered that myself. A great read, thank you.
I appreciate your insight and the consideration you give each post, Will.
This helps me so much in understanding one of my guest-bloggers
Well done, Will, you’ve got me hooked
