But from a technical point of view (I know, it sounds like I just like to disagree with you, but I promise that's not true!) humor is a great incentive to get people to pass on stories, but not necessarily part of what makes it sticky. Lots of funny jokes never get retold. But I'm one of those people for whom humor helps, and personally, I'm much more likely to pass on a story that I think will make the listener smile because I enjoy doing that.
