Re google directions, it gets 'funnier' after you land in Europe.
click on item 25 and read where the ferry travels to and fro from. But it has you make a 'grand de-tour' - nothing wrong with sight-seeing, is there?

(Google must be partly French, they try to keep you there almost forever! Check the following route: New York to Penzance ;-))</description>
