Brad, I think next time I'll do a better job of transitioning between parts. Otherwise, thanks!

You know, it's ironic how often that move you've decided on will pay off. Although you may have to be careful what you share, the sense of teamwork you can build with a client may be invaluable. Relationships are ultimately what good business is all about.

Good luck!

Thanks for breaking this into two pieces Robert, because you have many, many important ideas going on here. The "talk it out" piece really hits home today. Some colleagues and I have been struggling with a major decision for months (de-energizing to the max), and finally, yesterday, we hit on an amazing solution: Let's talk it over with the other party. Let's lay all our cards on the table and have a frank discussion. Just making the decision felt like a huge weight had been lifted. We'll see what happens after the talk!

Howdy, Karen! Hey, I can admire anyone who manages to move quickly with LCDs. This is one case where the more you know, the more you tend to agonize over them. Left unchecked, this can eventually suck away one's decision-making ability. Not good.

Glad you're able to move forward; hope you can keep that skill as life builds up around you! God tells us to "count the cost" when it comes to big decisions, but it's no reason to get paralyzed about them.

Thanks for the kind words, Karen! :-)

Robert, I read Part 1 and 2 in one reading because, well I didn't want to be left in suspense. :-) I tend not to agonize over LCDs. I am that idiot that will simply leap (unless God tells me not to) and ask questions later. Life changes whether you make decisions or not so I figure making a decision beats hiding under the bed. I really enjoyed this post and the lessons you shared. Thanks a bunch Robert!

Mike, you're absolutely right about that! (I can hear a big "amen" from Mrs. MZM in the background, too!) Hopefully I'm not such a slow learner that I can't figure out when "talking it out" is the right thing to do, though.

Joanna, we just did that one about two years ago; I feel your pain! Choosing a house is ultimately an exercise in compromise. I love that quote from Amy; it's so her - I think I'll add it to the next edition of Great Quotes.

She's right though; some of the LCDs we agonize over are in fact simply choosing different-but-ultimately-equal paths; either choice, when you get right down to it, may be just peachy-keen!

Just be careful you don't turn, um, green! :-D

Hey Bob,

Great advice, and I really enjoyed the illustrations. That "talking it out" bit can a challenge! ;-)

Hi Robert

I'm trying to make a decision at the moment about a house purchase. Boy, I've been tying myself in knots over it!

Something Amy Palko said to me yesterday really helped though. "There are no wrong decisions, only different paths"

As soon as I read that I relaxed. I wasn't trying to work out the 'right' answer, (with the risk of choosing the wrong one), just looking at two different paths stretching ahead. That gave me some of the distance, perspective and confidence that you're talking about here.

I'm definitely going to try that again as I build up my LCD-making muscles!
