I can definitely relate to the difficulty of being laid off. I was laid off after 9/11 and learned many techniques for surviving and getting my career back on track. I have a series of blog posts about that experience at link that comes with this comment.

We all do the best we can, MOin. Sometimes it’s harder because of uncertainty, but still, we musn’t let that fear dictate our lives. Make the decision and move on. You can always change again later.

Excellent write Robert i just loved reading this brilliant article worth spending 20 minutes. very well written and each and every word, opinion and fact is all true. some times taking decisions are hell of a hard to do job because you know if you go wrong you are effected forever then you need to take someone's help or sometimes you are strong enough on your own to get through all that tough time. @Mike – Yeah, it’s like many other things in life; you can find oodles of information in order to get as informed as possible, but it still can’t make it easier.

I agree with Brad. I spend far too much time thinking about consequences I can’t possible envisage or control. I need part II too!

Brad, I think you’re right about the sense of recovery time. Plus, especially if you’ve made a few bad decisions (as we all probably have), you start getting “gun shy”; which leads to a greater fear of the consequences, which leads to… It becomes a vicious circle.

That’s why I say it’s the consequences we worry about and not the decision itself.

Not only do decisions not get easier with time, I’d say they get harder. You worry more about consequences, and you don’t have as much time to recover from a bad one as you did when you were young. Can’t wait to see what happens in Part II!
