Plus, especially if you've made a few bad decisions (as we all probably have), you start getting "gun shy"; which leads to a greater fear of the consequences, which leads to... It becomes a vicious circle. That's why I say it's the consequences we worry about and not the decision itself. Brad, I think you’re right about the sense of recovery time. You worry more about consequences, and you don't have as much time to recover from a bad one as you did when you were young. Can't wait to see what happens in Part II!
