What I Learned From 2007 – Anna Lenardson

WILF ChristmasInquiring minds want to know: What were the most amazing, profound, surprising, or even whacky things you’ve learned over the last year?

Here’s an entry from Anna Lenardson, of Anna’s Attic:

2007 was kinda the year of the blog for me. At first I thought “That sounds like way too much work” to go back over a whole year of posts, but then I did that very thing because I wanted to add a category to my writings so that I could find a certain set of them easily. And I realized how much I have learned from blogging and from actually recording my thoughts. So here’s what I learned from 2007.

Feb 2007 was my very first blogging month and it was all about conversations (which seems appropriate since blogging itself is a conversation). I learned to mean it when I say How Ya Doin? and to answer the question in a meaningful way as well.

In March I learned the importance of closure and that sometime you have to say good-bye to something you never had.

In April I learned the importance of asking the right question.

In May I was going through a hard time and decided to take a Sabbath day (a day off to rest and re-charge). I spent much of that day in the garden and here’s what I learned.

After a couple minor softball injuries in June, I learned to play like I mean it.

Sometime around July I began channeling poetry and I learned that I love to let poetry flow through my brain and onto the “paper” (sometimes it’s paper, I can do old school).

In August I contemplated the difference between having expectations and eagerly watching. And I realized that sometimes blessings come in unexpected packages.

September was a journey of self-discovery for me. And one of the things I discovered was the need to be present, pay attention. Another thing I realized was the need to slow down.

Have you ever bitten into something and been severely disappointed by the result? In October I learned that it isn’t a bagel because of its shape.

My post from November was actually written in my journal in October and posted in November. So even though I may be bending the rules you’ll want to go see what I learned from the tunnel (if only for the beautiful Sound-of-Music-esque photograph). [Editor's note: Rules? What rules? No worries, Anna!]

In December I lost my “voice” for a little while. I was in mourning and depressed and what I wrote didn’t ring true. And I only posted four times that month. But even so, it was hard to choose. But I think I’ve inflicted enough of my poetry on you, so go here and see what I learned about Emmanuel, God with us.
