It's Not What It Seems
One of the guys in my carpool shared this story with me…
He and a few of his friends had gone to Dallas for the weekend, and amid the usual jokes from the women-folk about a “guy’s weekend out” (insert the usual canned wisecracks about “don’t get into trouble”, “I don’t want to get a phone call from the local jail”, or even “it took me years to raise you right – don’t make me have to find a replacement”) they headed out. (It was all perfectly innocent, mind you – all involved are happily married except for the guy’s single brother-in-law.)
Saturday night they searched for a likely place for dinner and ended up at this southern cuisine-type place, where they settled in for an evening of jukebox music, barbequed animals and a generally congenial evening. Over a plate of ribs, my friend’s phone rang – it was his wife calling to see how things were going.
“Hey, we’re having a great time, honey! (All the while, loud music and a boisterous crowd is filling the background)”
“Where are you? It sounds like a noisy place,” she asked.
“Oh, a place called Babe’s” he blithely replied. Then, realizing what that must have sounded like, he smiled and quickly added, “But don’t worry, dear; it’s not what it sounds like.”
Now, a situation like this could go two completely different ways.
On the one hand, there could have been some real trouble. The guy’s wife could have gotten a completely wrong idea and things could have turned out, well, pretty badly.
However, in this instance, everything really was innocent and above-board. His wife knew him well enough to accept his statement at face value. They both even had a good laugh about it. All was well.
So, what’s the difference? One little word:

It’s also points out a very good point about trust. In my line of work I’m in contact with some very beautiful and professional women. I kid my Wife all the time about “wondering how it would feel to be kept man”. LOL She knows there’s no chance of that happening. She also has some ummentionable comebacks for that…LOL
