Make Every Moment Count

Wandering around Discovery Green Park in downtown Houston one morning a few weeks ago, I was not surprised to find every single park bench had a dedication of some kind. You know what I mean, right? Along the lines of, “In memory of…”, or something similar.

Hey, it’s a time-honored way of remembering those who’ve come before us, and perhaps may no longer be with us. I often wonder what stories are contained within those few brief words.

However, as I was about to leave the park, I ran across this one, in which a slightly different sentiment is expressed: MAKE EVERY MOMENT COUNT.

I’m tellin’ ya; have no idea who the Reckling family is (all 46 of ‘em; yeesh, can you imagine the run on the bathroom in the mornings?), but I’ll tell ya; I am now a big fan!

Yessir, now that’s a sentiment that gets the ol’ ticker turnin’ over, ain’t it? I gotta say, as a kick-start to the day, it was a heckuva great one!

So allow me to pass it on to y’all today – along with a big ol’ tip o’ the hat!

MAKE EVERY MOMENT COUNT

    Good words. Very good indeed.

Great find Robert. I would certainly prefer that to be said about me (now or after) rather than ‘in memory.’ And what a nice place to find it: A place of rest and observation.

@Algernon – Hey, thanks, and a tip o’ the hat to ya, Bubba!

@Fred – Yeah, I know what you mean. I was just reading something about goal-setting in our latest Success Magazine, and it suggested, when setting goals, to consider the following: Think about how you want to be remembered.

Not a bad slogan for operating in this life, wouldn’t you say?

Robert it’s such a simple statement that we hear so often and each time it stirs our heart and causes us to stop, breathe and remember. So many moments pass us by. We mean to pay attention to each note but are lost in conducting the entire orchestra. Thanks so much for the reminder and thank you Recklings for sharing it with the world.

Robert, your post brought this quote, which I’m about to post on my blog, to mind.
“Days are scrolls: write on them what you want to be remembered.”

I love it! I’m so glad I followed over from your comment on Joanna’s blog!

It’s such a subtle–yet loud–message to enjoy each moment to its fullest. What a nice reminder!

@Karen – I think the fact that it IS such a simple, clear statement is what caught my eye, Karen. I’m with you in celebrating the Recklings for their thoughtfulness to the rest of us!

@Sheila – I love that quote. Like I just said to Fred a few comments ago, that’s a great way to set goals, too.

Thanks for the quote, Sheila! And drop by again real soon now, y’hear? :-D

@Michele – Well, I’m plum tickled you followed that link too, Michele! In fact, I’m impressed with your site so it goes into my RSS reader as of… NOW! :-D

It was so cool that I turned right instead of left and found this bench. Now the rest of us can enjoy the sentiment, too. Hey, a tip o’ the hat to ya!

Very inspiring post Robert. My mom is 76 years old now and i am giving my full effort to take care of her so that she don’t feel no regrets that i am her son. That’s why i really agreed to that phrase.

Robert, I have to be agreed with you in this case. I normally saw the lines, “In memory of…”, but not this, “Make Every Moment Count”! Hmm…, 46 in total? It’s hard to tell, whether they’re human beings or animals….

    Robert,
I think that’s a wonderful sentence to be put in a park bench! For me this time of the year–the beginning of the last quarter of it–shows me how important it is to make every moment count. It won’t come back!

@Chris – Good for you, Chris! Every moment – no matter how fleeting – does count!

@Wilson – It certainly stood out from the rest of ‘em!

  16. Robert Hruzekon Oct 2nd 2009 at 7:37 am

    @Ulla – It’s a great sentiment, ain’t it? I think this is one of those things I’ll remember for a long time…

Thanks a lot for this inspiration. Things haven’t been going so great for me lately, so every motivational thought I read is welcome. And this one is actually really good – very simple and it makes you think.

This statement has been heard from many mouths already it is actually a common one. What is important here is the thought. You know, what the statement says is not often reflected and that’s what makes me sad. But then, good statement.

  21. Robert Hruzekon Oct 7th 2009 at 4:35 pm

@Nogomet – I hope this one helps you, my friend. Hang in there, Bubba!

  22. Robert Hruzekon Oct 7th 2009 at 4:36 pm

@Matt – It’s a good one to me, Matt! I think I needed to hear it at that moment, y’know?

different from the general said, this sentence is more unforgotful.yes, make every moment count. cherish the moment in hand.
