Could It Mark the End of Life as We Know It?

If one eats pizza from the round end first instead of the pointy end, could it mark the end of life as we know it? That’s the Question Of The Ages: Is there, in fact, a “wrong” way to eat pizza?

The reason the question comes up at all is because of a little-known incident that happened at last year’s SOBCon08.

Now, if we can color you intrigued by the above introduction – well, you’ll have to pop on over to the SOBCon blog to read the story. All ya gotta do is follow this handy link.

Don’t worry; I’ll still be here when ya come back!

Hi Robert! it says link not found :D

I believe there is no wrong way. You can start at whatever end, you’ll still get to the same result: finish a slice of pizza. Same with bananas: some people start at one end, others at the other. Who’s to say which is right? Monkeys? :)

There is no wrong way to eat pizza (except possibly with a knife and fork), but there is definitely the wrong pizza to eat.

@Alina – I’m aghast – simply aghast, Alina; you’ve got it totally wrong! Of course there’s a wrong way to eat pizza! You have to look at it as an engineer would…

See, the round, crusty end is the “handle” – it’s specially engineered so you can hold a slice of pizza without getting it on your fingers. It’s perfect! As for bananas – well, when you partially peel a banana, doesn’t it form a perfect “handle”? Again, fingers clean…

So again, there’s a right end and a wrong end. Sheesh, what do they teach y’all in school these days… :-D

@Andy – See my response above, Andy. And to tell you the truth, I’ve actually eaten a pizza with knife and fork. Kinda strange, but still… down the hatch is the whole point anyway.

    I’m with Alina.

    Maybe it’s a European thing?

    Maybe it’s a girl thing?

I have to agree with Robert here. It has always been my understanding that the crust of a pizza is designed to be a ‘handle’ to maintain clean hands while eating pizza.

Though, of course, should you wish to start eating at the crust end, so be it. There’s no real problem there: As people have mentioned previously, the primary objective is to eat it. So long as that happens, then it makes no difference.

    An interesting discussion nevertheless.

    Robert,

Absolutely, there is a wrong way to eat pizza, and that’s as Andy C said, with a knife and folk.

Whichever way around you start, pizza should definitely be consumed in one’s fingers. To do otherwise is simply just not right!

@Andy – Well, I gotta admit to using a knife and fork once or twice – mainly because it was too hot to hold at the moment and I just couldn’t wait! ‘Course, I paid for my haste with a burned mouth so it all balanced out, y’know?

Pizza is definitely finger food no matter from which end you start or how many layers of topping are sliding around and off the gooey mozzarella.

@Terro – You got it right, Terro. Besides, use of the fingers tells us when it’s cool enough to eat, too…

Robert, I didn’t know that the Pizza should be eat from the pointy end, as I always loved to crunch from the round part first! lol

Oh, now I remembered that I saw the picture before at Joanna’s Confident Writing’s blog! No wonder the picture was so familiar…

Re: Could It Mark the End of Life as We Know It?

There’s no wrong way in eating pizza as long as you love it. It is the same as life, there’s no wrong end and in every person where they want to start. It matters only how to handle and manage to make a good one.

  15. Robert Hruzekon May 6th 2009 at 6:12 am

@Wilson – Hey, there’s room on this big ol’ planet for all kinds of ways to eat pizza. I’m all for diversity. But it’s still wrong to eat it from the round end first. :-D

@Social – Philosophy from a pizza? Good one! Hey, why not leave a name next time and stay for a spell?
