Facing Adversity
OK; I know you’ve faced adversity at least once or twice. Sometimes the source is the circumstances you happen to find yourself in. Other times, it knocks on your door in the form of, well, a person. Or three.
Hey, nobody loves adversity, right? I mean, sure, there’s all that stuff about welcoming adversity because there’s probably a lesson to be learned from it. Yada, yada, yada.
I mean, c’mon; who really welcomes it into their lives?
BUT (and that’s a really BIG ‘but’), the fact remains that adversity is still one of the best teachers I know. And so, That’s why we’re going to celebrate that next month by making that the topic of our next What I Learned From… groupwrite project! (sound of crowd cheering)
Hey, if you’ve never participated in one of our monthly groupwrite projects, don’t worry; it’s easy. You write about the topic (it can be directly, indirectly, or even parabolically related to it – it’s your choice), a post on your own blog sometime before the deadline, send me the link, and voila! you’re then listed in the wrap-up post on the following Monday! Easy as pie!
Now, here’s where there’s always some confusion. Officially, our groupwrite projects always kick off on the first Monday of each month. That means we launch the next one on Monday, April 6 – and the deadline for entries is midnight Sunday night, April 12 (just in time for America’s Tax Day).
However, because some folks like to have more than a week’s notice, I usually announce the topic a week early. So if you just can’t stand it, you’re welcome to write and post your entry anytime in the next two weeks. I’m just sayin’ the OFFICIAL kick off post will be next Monday.

After years being a stellar performer, constant award winner and essential team member, my company is falling to pieces. I have the dubious distinction of getting to stick around on the transition team (no retention bonus) while the capital dwindles away to the point where I can be virtually assured of no severance, no leave payout and I’ve already given up hope on the bonus I was awarded (due to be paid in July). Unfortunately, none of that will come to a head until well after your deadline (takes time to break up a family) so I’ll bow out of this project.
Guess that means I’m just complaining. Ugh. What have I become.
Love the idea. Will miss the project but hopefully still come away from it all with some lessons learned.

Robert, I love this theme. Okay, I know I love EVERY theme but you just keep coming up with great topics! I hate adversity but you’re right, it is our greatest teacher. I blame Adam and Eve, if not for them we’d be sitting around all day munching berries and lounging in the grass. Now we have to learn stuff the hard way.
Robert, this is a great topic! See if I can rustle up something.
@Jason – Man, my heart goes out to ya – what a thing to have to face! In fact, I wish you lived in Texas or Georgia – I could offer you something that has and will help the Mrs. and me on our road to independence.
But hang in there! One thing I’ve learned over the years is that we CAN make it! Lean on friends, count on their encouragement and help, keep the faith – all good techniques for gettin’ through.
