It's Not That I'm Paranoid, But…
Before I go on, let me just say right up front here – the fact that Friday’s post contained a reference to a large rabbit was entirely a coincidence. The truth is, when I wrote it there was no connection in my (somewhat convoluted, I admit) thought processes to Easter. Ironic, huh?
Anyway, I consider the Easter Bunny to be a myth. Really. And I’m not afraid to say it. Still… I can’t help but wonder… does the Easter Bunny hold grudges? That is, if he existed.
Back in my grade school years, I used to spend quite a few after-school hours with my two best friends, Mike and Mark. We did everything together, from building tree houses in the empty lot down at the end of the block, to exploring the freeway when they were building it. (You remember when people used to tell you to “go play on the freeway”? Well, we used to actually do it.)
Many care-free summer days were spent riding our bikes around our part of town, and since the well-known (at least, back in those days it was) Pin Oak Stables was within a few miles of our street, naturally we spent a lot of time there. (Mike knew the family that owned them, and they gave their permission for us to be there when there wasn’t a horse show going on.)
One day we were walking across a fresh-cut field (you’ve done it yourself, I’m sure). You could see the little clumps of grass the mowers left behind, lined up like stitches across the huge field; the smell of cut grass was thick in the air (ah, sweet smell of summer!)
As we approached an exceptionally large clump of grass, Mark hauled off and gave it a huge kick, sending grass flying everywhere. We (being kids) immediately were enthralled by this new game and all started kicking innocent clumps of grass with abandon. (Hey, we were kids – it didn’t take much to keep us entertained.)
A few minutes later Mark ran up to another big clump and gave it a mighty kick – and one very surprised rabbit went flying through the air! Luckily, although the astonished bunny rolled a bit when he landed, he immediately started hopping for the hills as we all collapsed laughing in the grass. No apparent harm done.
So it’s not that I’m… well, hiding from the Easter Bunny. I mean, I don’t believe he exists, you know. But still, I wonder… surely he’s forgiven us by now?

Congratulations on making it into the Gack Ink BYOB blog network!! I’m looking forward to visiting your blog daily!!
Thanks, Angela! It’s an honor just to be nominated! Oh, wait… I nominated myself, didn’t I? Well, anyway, it’s an honor!
Could this be related back to the elephant story somehow?
Markk, I hope not! The last thing I want to hear about is that elephant and the Easter bunny (not that I believe in him) talking to each other!
Hi Robert
Thanks for stopping by my blog to comment. Congratulations to a fellow inductee into the Gack Ink network.
I’ve spent some time reading your blog, and am pleased I’ve discovered it. The State of the Blog post was very inspirational, including the power of the group project.
I look forward to seeing what you have up your sleeve in this regard. I’m also looking forward to working with you at Gack Ink.
All the best
Yvonne

Hi Robert, you have done so much with this blog! I used this theme for several months, but I must say that you make it shine a lot better than I did.
Hi Yvonne; thanks for the kind words about MZM! I look forward to what the future holds at Gack Ink.
Aw, shucks, Denise; you’re too kind! I really like the overall feel of this one – very cool and crisp; not too flamboyant. Still thinkin’ about a background image for the title, but maybe not…
Robert are you sure you don’t belong to the Cult of the Easter Bunny? I’m sure I saw you at one of the meetings!
How did you recognise him under the costume?
Pete, I swear it was someone else! I was at home with my wife at the time! Honest, officer! Just ask her!
Uh, honey-bunch? Honey?
Hey, and what were YOU doing there?!?
Markk, I’m not sure if it was him (if he exists, that is). But there was just… something… about him that made me wonder.
