January: Target shoots itself in the foot

Remember this? Target had an official policy not to talk to bloggers … which backfired spectacularly when they misjudged an advert. We even heard about it on the other side of the Atlantic.

February: Spin, fads and taxes: CSR in the 21st century

Corporate Social Responsibility: is it really just spin, a fad or a tax on shareholder’s profits? We say no, and that CSR done properly improves the bottom line.

March: Probably the best IR site in the world

Lets imagine … would the best IR site in the world know your name, tell you what you need to know and pour you a cold beer?

April: Are you blanking your customers?

It’s all too easy to upgrade your site functionality, but forget about accessibility. An AMEX site upgrade meant that a blind customer could no longer access his account online. Embarrassing, but they fixed it asap.

May: When it all goes wrong in the FTSE100

How well do the major corporate sites manage when a URL goes bad? We reviewed the 404 pages of the top 100 companies in the FTSE 100 – and find that only a few have gone for the full spit and polish.

June: Tesco: chickening out of publicity

Tesco discovered that shareholder activism is a growing force – and that people feel strongly about the welfare of chickens.  Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall managed to raise £87,000 in three days using the internet, so that he could submit a motion to the company’s AGM.

July: Website or blog – Daddy or chips?

If you’re old enough, you’ll remember this dilemma. Which do you love more, Daddy or chips? Know the answer to that one? How about this old favourite: website or blog?

August: Evaluate your brand with the corporate branding success quiz

Susan Gunelius presented her Corporate Branding Success Quiz. Did your branding strategy pass?

September: Lehman Brothers: Why real business leaders do CSR

We couldn’t let a summary of 2008 go past without some mention of the economic crisis, now could we?  In September Chris Milton asked what corporate leaders mean when they talk about corporate social responsibility.

October: Celebrating the FTSE100: Action on the breadline

Our post for Blog Action Day 2008 – how can big business help pull people out of poverty? And what you could do, even if you’re a long way from being in the FTSE 100.

November: Retail, redesign and lost visitors

Sites do need redesigning every so often. I get that – and often I like it. But please don’t reduce the functionality available to me, the visitor …

December: Who are your business spokespeople?

Who represents your company in public? It used to be senior staff or public relations only … but now, it can be everybody. How are you going to manage that potential loss of control?

Evaluate Your Brand with the Corporate Branding Success Quiz was my favorite.

Then again, I like question-driven assessments.

Say, do us all a favor, won't you? We’re fairly easy-going around these here parts, but please do NOT enter a keyword phrase or a business, product or service name as YOUR name in the comment section. It will likely get your comment labeled as spam and deleted. You MAY, however, use a real name, nickname or handle, along with a brief identifying phrase, such as "Big Bubba, Midnight Cowboy." Thanks a herd, and a tip o’ the hat to ya! - Ed.
