I am a mom, wife and writer living in northwest Iowa.

On my quirky faith walk, I am learning anew each day that God often appears when and where I least expect to find Him. And that’s where my blog, Getting Down With Jesus, comes in. I share my unexpected encounters with God in sometimes-crazy, sometimes-serious places. Like the altar … or the bathroom. I explore the ways God does His Thing in the ordinary-ness of life.

Here are my 2008 “best-of” contributions.

  • July Faith Journeys, Burning Hearts – This was my first month of blogging. I had only two choices – one about the swallowed marble sitting in my daughter’s stomach as we prayed for a “movement”, and one about faith journeys. I picked the one about faith journeys. Need I explain?
  • August Living Water – I was still barely blogging in August – with a mere four posts. My favorite was a blog post about my experience as a godparent, standing at the baptismal font of my nephew.
  • September God Among the Weeds – My 4-year-old helped me see God in an unexpected place. Where I saw weeds, she saw the handiwork of God.
  • October Going Green – The beauty of God’s Living Word fell afresh on me as I watched what happened when my 7-year-old took her green highlighter to the first chapter of Genesis.
  • November A Day of Blessing – The day started well before dawn, when I took my little girl to the surgery center. Through tears and Bandaids, we felt God reaching down to us.
  • December Bailout – It was Sunday morning. The communion bread was headed my way. And there I was, daydreaming about a GM Bailout.

Jennifer, I can’t say how glad I am that you decided to begin blogging! Your posts, all of them, are so endearing and inspiring to read…..and learn from.

And I love September’s post about how such a child can find beauty in the mist of weeds……we can all learn from our younger one’s can’t we? But it also says a lot about you and dad as parents, that you teach them about God’s creation through everything!

I have never met you yet feel like the short time I’ve learned about you has been like you’re a dear, dear friend who I’ve known for years. I just wish I had the priveledge of knowing you in person; it has been a great honor reading your posts!!!
