Rashowa!

Howdy, Bubba! Hey, if you're new around these parts, I just want to say how much I appreciate you dropping by! Oh, and you may want to subscribe to my feed. Thanks, and a tip o' the hat to ya!

SneezeAnd speaking of my sainted grandmother…

I know yesterday’s post was about a truly cool memory of my grandmother, but I can’t help but relate one more story about her. Whenever anyone in the family reminisces about her and I’m anywhere around, inevitably this story comes up, every time.

It happened when I was still a baby, so of course I don’t remember it personally. But she told me about it (often), and after all, grannies don’t lie, do they? (This one didn’t, anyway.)

I was just a cute (of course) little thing at the time, but she had the job of feeding me while Mom was away at work. So one fine day (naturally, I was being my usual angelic little self) as she was feeding me strained beets (ugh! Let’s not go there!) I let loose with a tremendous sneeze, “Rashowa!” *

If you’ve never seen it, you may have difficulty imagining the picture, but here goes: picture my grandmother, covered by tiny red spots – glasses, face, hair – everything. Now further imagine a perfectly-formed spray-pattern of fine red dots with a clean, granny-shaped area directly behind her on the wall.

As I said, I don’t remember it personally, but I do remember her showing me the faded beet stains on the wall…

Hey! I’m an artist! Well, better make that an “are-teest”. Uh, er, was.

As a special bonus today:

Rashowa (warning: auto-play windows media sound file) is a track from Noel Paul Stookey’s 1977 album, Reel to Reel (by the way, he’s Paul, of Peter, Paul and Mary fame). It’s a monologue about when they were in Japan for their first concert in Tokyo. At dinner afterwards, the sponsoring company’s executive let loose with a humongous corker of a sneeze. This link will take you to a Windows Media recording of the track, so don’t forget to turn your speakers on - believe me, you’re gonna want to hear this one!

You know, it would just be absolutely finer than a frogs hair if you would subscribe to my RSS feed!
