Hunkering Down

It’s about 4 pm here, and probably the most often-heard phrase we’ve heard in all the news reports is that we’re “hunkering down” in preparation for Ike’s landfall. Winds are building steadily, but it’ll be several hours before it really starts to get strong.
Landfall is still expected around 1 or 2 am on Saturday morning, although it’s still a bit uncertain as to the exact point. It’s so close now it almost doesn’t matter, though.
I guess all we can do it pray and wait. Maybe the phrase is appropriate after all.

Robert,
Good luck man. I’m a Navy brat and grew up all along the coast. I’ve been through about 7 hurricanes and countless tropical storms.
I’m a huge weather buff so I always found experiencing a storm such as Ike as interesting, until the reality of loss of life and property sets in.
Anyways, those of us in San Antonio our hoping for the best for you guys.

Don’t you have some relatives you should be visiting in Kansas or Colorado? If I were in your shoes, those shoes would be many miles from Houston right about now.
Good luck, Robert! Stay safe.

@Trey – Appreciate the thoughts! It’s about 6 pm now and the winds are starting to escalate dramatically. Hunkerin’ down for sure now!
@Sterling – I’d be somewhere else for sure if I lived anywhere in the flood plain areas near the coast. A storm surge of up to 26 feet is expected in some spots! Yikes!
Still sending my prayers. Thanks for the update.
