Comings, Goings, and Other Sundry Items
Let’s get caught up on a couple of things today.
What I Learned From… Group Writing Project
First of all, in case you hadn’t noticed, we’re smack dab in the middle of June’s What I Learned From… group writing project (the topic this month is ANIMALS). We’re joining forces once again with the High Callings Bloggers (a big ol’ HOWDY, and a tip o’ the hat to ya!), and I’ll tell ya, last time we did that we had over 40 entries (not to mention getting to meet lots of new friends)!
The thing is, to date I’ve received links to only 8 entries. Needless to say (so naturally I’ll say it anyway!), ya got your work cut out for ya, folks!
Not to worry, though, you still have until Sunday night, June 15th to submit your links. Plenty of time. He said. But “plenty of time” has a way of turning into “not enough time”, don’cha know?
I’m just sayin’…
On Retreat at Laity Lodge
A couple of weeks ago, High Calling Blogs ran a writing contest; Marcus Goodyear challenged us to write about any experiences we’d had at a retreat. (Should you be so inclined, you can read my entry, The Power of Retreat, here.)
Now, we had a chance to win a choice of three retreats at the Laity Lodge (it’s in what we call “the hill country”, near Kerrville, Texas), so naturally I did what most of us do (and you know who you are!) and entered at the last minute. When I submitted my entry, there were only 8 others, so I thought to myself, “Self, we have a pretty good chance!” (Yes, I talk to myself sometimes. So what’s your point?)
However, just a few hours later when Marcus drew the winner, that number had grown to 20, so it’s even more amazing that I actually won! (And Mike, I’d like to go on record as saying, “To the best of my recollection, there were no “icy envelopes” involved!”)
Anyhoo – the bottom line is, starting today, we’ll be totally out of range of the wired world (not even cell phones!) while Mrs. MZM and I enjoy a relaxing four days with a couple of interesting speakers (Marva Dawn and Mark D. Roberts). And, in the evenings we’ll be tappin’ our feet to the gentle jazz creations of Charlie Peacock.
PLUS – there’s canoeing, exploring, tennis (although IMHO the idea of playing tennis in near-100-degree weather is, well, insane), and there’s always my favorite: just plain nothin’. Can’t you just hear the “aaaaahhhhh” from where you sit?
You know, since I started blogging, I don’t believe I’ve been even ONE day away from the Internet. Gee, now that I think about it (sound of grinding gears) that experience alone ought to be worth it.
But not to worry, y’all; I’ll be back online next Monday!
See ya!

Hi Bob,
I’m glad you made that clarification. I spent many happy hours bicycling in the Texas Hill Country and I hope you and Mrs. MZM have a wonderful time.
Mike
I’m so glad you won the prize! That’s fantastic. Hope you both have a wonderful time. Tell Mrs MZM we’ll be looking forward to reading her post on What I Learned From 4 Days On A Retreat With A Man With Internet Withdrawal Symptoms
See you soon
Joanna
Congratulations on the retreat. Having been to Laity Lodge, I can tell you that you will have a wonderful time.
Bob, congratulations! I hope you and Mrs. MZM have a wonderful time! I’m with Joanna, I’d love to see that post! Enjoy and be prepared to tell all (well nearly all) when you come back.
@Mike – Hey thanks, Mike! It’s beautiful country, isn’t it?
We had a wonderful time away, and I’ll be writing more about it as time goes by.
@Joanna – Actually, it was amazingly wonderful to be away from all mentions of technology, politics & etc.! Might have to try it again sometime. (Except, you know, maybe shorter… :-\)
@Jon – Thanks, it was quite wonderful! It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen in Texas, too. I’ll be writing about it soon.
@Karen – Don’t worry, there’s plenty of fresh material just waitin’ to be captured – if I can get my Muse back from vacation, that is!
